If you firm is running ProLaw XII you have an instance setup of SSRS that allows for extremely customizable reports either from your own datasource, or using the ProLaw database. These SSRS reports support subscriptions so they can automatically be emailed to you as well. If you are running SQL Express however, it does NOT support emailed reports. A full version of SQL would need to be purchased. If you are not sure what type of SQL licensing your firm has, when you try to subscribe to a report, it will tell you your version does not support this. However, if you have ProLaw XII, there is a way around that!
Assuming you are familiar with ProLaw XII reporting and SSRS, here are the steps to accomplish this. This does NOT go into detail on how to create an SSRS report or a new datasource:
1 – Create and test your report in SSRS either using the Prolaw datasource or your own. Backup your report.
2 – Launch ProLaw, and a open a module such as Matters. Open the Reports for that module, select any report, and right-click “Copy” that report. A rename dialog will come up, name it the same as your new report.
3 – Now that you have copied a ProLaw report, navigate to it in your SSRS web interface, typically http://[your_ssrs_server]/reports. Open the ProLaw reports, then reports, then the module that you copied the report in to find your new report. (the path here can vary based on versions SSRS or ProLaw, or which module you copied the report in).
4 – Open the report that you copied/created through ProLaw in the Report Builder. Since this is the COPY of the ProLaw report, you can delete everything that is in this report, and copy all the items from the custom report you made in step 1 into this report: all teh elements, dataset, settings, etc. Test the report through the web interface.
5 – Now that you have a working report, you will need to create the ProLaw report shortcut. To do this, you must run your new report through the interface, and use the “create shortcut” link like you would for any other ProLaw report. Name this shortcut.
6 – Create the report queue in the Reports module
7 – Schedule and test this custom report through system preferences with the ProLaw Agent!
You can follow this to create and schedule emails of any custom report with any datasource! Just be sure that you COPY the ProLaw reports so you do not lose anything, and backup the SSRS database before any major changes!
